‘Pottering around Clevedon’ The Theatre Shop, Clevedon, BS21 6HX Wednesday 31st May 2023
William Fishley Holland’s ancestors were among the most respected ‘peasant potters’ in England. In 1921 he set up Clevedon Pottery on Court Lane and ran it for over 40 years. His autobiography ‘50 years a potter‘, published in 1958, includes unique records of his early life and career in Devon, Elton ware, and his time in Clevedon. Peter Longman puts our local hero into a national context and shows examples of his wares.

Studio pottery was born of the Arts and Crafts Movement as a reaction against mass production, seeking a return to the traditions of the individual maker in their studio.
