Ray offers practical tips on transforming the germ of an idea into a finished script for aspiring TV scriptwriters or anyone curious about how your favourite soap opera gets to your screen. Brooking has been writing professionally since 1995, when his first episode of The Bill was aired.He has written over 100 episodes of BBC1 daytime drama Doctors, as well as episodes of Casualty, EastEnders, River City and the period police drama WPC56. In 2022 he published his first detective novel Venus Sleep. ‘

‘Sleeping with the Moon’ – In June 2021, as part of 12 full moon sleep-outs, Michael undertook a 9 mile night walk along the spine of the Quantocks. With encouragement from Coleridge and Wordsworth, the story spins out into a world of fantasy, as the Moon becomes taskmaster to the ‘Mike and the Mark’ – now transformed into bird and worm – ‘Bring me the breath of putrid scales, the lyrical song of forgotten time’. With music by Martin Solomon and a Prose-Poetry Workshop with Mark Smalley.
